JSW Steel’s crude steel output slips in January amid planned shutdowns

JSW Steel reported a 2pct YoY decline in consolidated crude steel production to 2.475 mln tons in January 2026, according to a stock exchange filing.

Output from Indian operations edged up slightly to 2.458 mln tons from 2.452 mln tons a year earlier. Capacity utilization stood at around 93pct excluding Blast Furnace-3 (BF3) and 85pct including BF3 during the month.

Production at JSW Steel USA-Ohio fell sharply to 17,000 tons from 66,000 tons in January 2025.

The company said the decline was mainly due to the planned shutdown of BF3 at its Vijayanagar plant for capacity expansion. The furnace has been offline since September 2025 and is expected to restart by the end of Q4 FY26. In the US, lower output reflected a scheduled outage at the Ohio facility for caster upgrades between December 15, 2025, and January 11, 2026.

JSW Steel’s consolidated crude steel capacity stands at 35.7 mln tons per annum, including 1.5 mln tons in the U.S., with plans to expand to 43.4 mln tons within three years.
