Turkish steelmaker Kardemir said it has signed contracts with the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) General Directorate and seven regional directorates for the supply of 22,980 tons of railway rails, according to the company’s stock exchange filing.
The agreements cover the production of 60E1 R260 rails in 36-meter lengths, to be used across projects managed by TCDD’s Ankara, Izmir, Sivas, Malatya, Adana and Afyon regional directorates, as well as the TCDD General Directorate and the YHT (high-speed rail) Regional Directorate, according to local media reports.
Kardemir’s Rail Profile Rolling Mill is a strategic asset and the sole producer of railway rails in Turkey and nearby regions, with an annual capacity of 450,000 tons. The mill manufactures rails to national and international standards, including hardened R350 grades. Kardemir also operates Turkey’s only railway wheel plant, with 200,000-wheel annual capacity, producing wheels for locomotives, passenger and freight wagons, and light rail systems.
Founded in 1938 as Turkey’s first integrated steel producer and privatized in 1995, Kardemir produces a wide range of steel products, including blooms, billets, rebar, wire rod, rails and profiles.
