Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has secured the operating rights for 11 mining sites, according to a stock exchange filing. The mining sites, located in Balikesir, Kutahya, Sivas, and Kirikkale, were awarded through tenders held by MAPEG (General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs).
Kardemir has begun preliminary studies to assess the reserves at these sites, which are believed to contain iron ore, copper, gold, and polymetallic deposits, spanning a total area of 11,939 hectares.
Karabuk Demir Celik (Kardemir) was established in 1938 as a state owned company and Turkey’s first integrated steel producer. In 1995, the company was privatized. It offers steel products, such as blooms, billets, rebars, profiles along with other steel products.
