Kuminex Steels Pvt. Ltd. has awarded a contract to Metso for the supply of a new traveling grate pelletizing plant in Hospet, Karnataka.
The USD 12.7 mln project marks Metso’s first modular, compact-sized pellet plant, designed specifically for emerging steel producers seeking high efficiency with a smaller footprint. The facility will have an annual capacity of 1.5 mln tons, with production slated to begin by mid-2027.
Under the agreement, Metso will provide engineering and design services, proprietary equipment, instrumentation, control systems, as well as supervisory support and technical training. The three-meter-wide indurating machine at the core of the plant is based on technology used in Metso’s full-scale traveling grate pelletizing systems, delivering comparable product quality and operational performance.
The new plant will also integrate Metso’s advanced digital tools, including VisioPellet and Optimus, to enhance process efficiency, stability, and reliability.
