Kurum International has awarded Danieli a contract to supply a new MIDA (Micromill Danieli) plant in Elbasan, marking the first greenfield MIDA installation in Europe.
The MIDA-QLP (Quality Long Products) plant will have capacity of more than 700,000 tons per year, producing deformed bars and compact coils. Danieli’s scope includes a meltshop with a 75-ton electric arc furnace equipped with continuous scrap charging, a 75-ton ladle furnace, material handling systems, and fume treatment.
At the heart of the line is Danieli’s patented OctoCaster, a 12-m radius continuous caster with an octagonal mould, enabling endless casting at speeds above 7 m/min. The rolling mill will feature housingless stands and a high-speed finishing block, producing straight bars from 10-32 mm and spooled coils from 8-25 mm, with coil weights of up to 5 tons.
Designed to deliver low transformation costs from scrap to finished products, the MIDA-QLP technology supports sustainable, low-emission steelmaking. Start-up is scheduled for Q4 2027.
Kurum International is an Albanian industrial company, a subsidiary of the Turkish Kurum Holding, primarily involved in iron and steel production and power generation.
