Lodhia Industries orders bar and wire-rod rolling mill

Lodhia Industries has signed a contract with Danieli for the supply of a state-of-the-art bar and wire-rod rolling mill complex in Tanzania, marking a major investment to expand steelmaking capacity in East Africa.

The new complex will have annual capacity of 300,000 tons, producing finished straight bars and smooth wire rod for local and regional markets. The bar mill will roll rebar in 8-32 mm diameters, while the wire-rod line will produce 5.5-8 mm smooth wire rod with coil weights above 2 tons.

Danieli’s scope includes advanced rolling technology for both lines. The bar mill will feature 14 GCC cartridge stands, a BGV six-pass finishing block, in-line quenching and tempering, and high-speed twin-channel discharge to the cooling bed. The wire-rod line will include a BGV four-pass finishing block, in-line cooling, and Danieli’s oil-film bearing laying head for improved stability and coil quality.

The mill will initially process 150×150 mm billets, with provisions for upgrading to 165×165 mm and for installing a horizontal billet welder to enable endless rolling and improve yield and productivity.

Designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind, the project incorporates advanced cooling and optimized rolling processes to reduce energy use and material waste.

Commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
