L&T secures major steel EPC orders from SAIL under expansion programme

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured major steel-sector orders through its Minerals & Metals (M&M) business vertical, including key engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) packages from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

L&T and SAIL have worked together for several decades on a range of metallurgical projects across India, supporting capacity expansion and technological upgrades in the country’s steel industry. The latest awards form part of SAIL’s ongoing modernization and expansion initiatives.

At the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, SAIL is planning to raise crude steel capacity from 2.5 mln tons per year to 6.5 mln tons per year. As part of this programme, L&T’s M&M division has been awarded the full engineering, procurement and installation scope for several core process units, including a coke oven battery, by-product plant, basic oxygen furnace and specialized material handling systems. These facilities will form the backbone of the new steel complex.

In parallel, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand is undertaking a major upstream expansion. L&T has secured an additional package for the establishment of Sinter Plant No. 2, further strengthening its footprint in India’s steel infrastructure development.
