Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties on tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea. The investigation was prompted by a petition from Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Berhad, representing the domestic tinplate industry.
MITI stated that the petitioner alleged these imports were being sold at prices significantly lower than those in the domestic markets of the four countries, causing material harm to Malaysia’s industry.
The provisional anti-dumping duties, effective from January 11, 2025, apply to flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel products, measuring 600mm or more in width and coated with tin (electrolytic tinplate or tinplate). The tariffs range from 2.52pct to 36.8pct.
These duties will remain in place for up to 120 days, with a final decision due by May 10. Stakeholders can submit feedback on the preliminary determination until January 20, MITI said.
