Malaysia will implement five-year anti-dumping duties on flat-rolled iron, non-alloy steel, and tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea starting May 11, 2025. The move follows an investigation into unfair trade practices initiated by local producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will enforce the duties through May 10, 2030, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
Definitive duties include:
China: 4.48pct to 20.42pct
India: 27.88pct
Japan: 15.74pct to 36.80pct
South Korea: 21.60pct to 35.43pct
MITI concluded that the imports were priced below domestic market rates in their countries of origin, causing material harm to Malaysia’s local steel industry. The duties aim to address the impact of unfair pricing and protect domestic producers.
