India’s NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) has commenced trial production of HRC from its rolling mill. The NSL team, along with MECON and technology provider Danieli, successfully completed integrated trial runs by utilizing 70mm semi-rolled plates sourced from Rourkela Steel.
Preceding this milestone, ghost rolling and other synchronization activities were carried out on June 29, 2023. These activities culminated in the introduction of slabs into the tunnel furnace on June 30, 2023, resulting in the successful rolling of hot slabs.
The state-of-the-art hot strip mill, supplied by technology provider Danieli from Italy, will produce approximately 2.89 mln tons of HR steel in various grades after stabilization.
The HR steel manufactured in the plant will find wide applications in LPG cylinders, bridges, automobile grades, pipes, storage tanks, boilers, and railway wagons.
