The Oryx Stainless Group, a leading global supplier of recycled stainless steel raw materials, has officially opened a new facility in Johor, Malaysia.
Phase 1 of the plant will process 150,000 tons of stainless steel annually, contributing to regional resource conservation and sustainable manufacturing, the company said. The Johor site joins Oryx’s existing facilities in the Netherlands, Thailand, Germany, and Spain.
The facility supports Malaysia’s target to reduce carbon intensity by 45pct by 2030. Processing recycled materials at the plant could reportedly cut nearly one mln tons of CO2 emissions per year, saving up to 8.5 tons per ton of material recycled.
Oryx specializes in producing precise blends of recycled raw materials for more than 150 stainless steel alloys. Its process includes analysis, storage, and production tailored to specific metallurgical needs, reducing reliance on high-emission primary raw materials such as ferronickel, ferrochrome, and ferromolybdenum. With smart logistics and digitized production, Oryx aims to make its operations as climate-neutral as possible.
