India’s Lloyds Engineering Works Limited (LEWL) announced it has been selected as a consortium partner with Primetals Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. and Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH to design and build a 4.2 mln tons per annum pellet plant complex at the Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal.
According to LEWL’s stock exchange filing, the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued by SAIL, values the consortium contract at approximately INR 613 crore (USD 69 mln) – Indian portion and EUR 18.26 mln (USD 21 mln) – Euro portion. The project is slated for completion within 39 months of the contract’s effective date.
SAIL, which currently produces around 20.6 mln tons of crude steel annually, aims to expand its capacity to 35 mln tons per year by FY2031 as part of its long-term growth strategy.
