Salzgitter AG’s subsidiary, Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, is contributing high-quality steel to the Rader High Bridge replacement project, a crucial infrastructure upgrade in northern Germany.
Spanning 1,500 meters over the Kiel Canal, the bridge is a key transport link to Denmark and Scandinavia. In use since 1972, it has faced increasing restrictions due to wear and tear, prompting a phased replacement. Construction began in 2023 with the eastern half, while the western section is scheduled for 2028, with full completion expected by 2031.
The project is being executed by a joint venture between Plauen Stahl Technologie GmbH and ZSB Zwickauer Sonderstahlbau, under Swiss firm Implenia AG, with DEGES overseeing planning and construction.
Ilsenburger Grobblech has already supplied several thousand tons of high-grade plates for the first phase, with additional structural steel deliveries planned.
