Scrap import prices inch higher on fresh bookings

Turkey’s imported scrap prices edged up this week to USD 350-355 per ton CFR, as compared to last week’s USD 345-355 per ton CFR, as several new cargoes were reportedly booked.

Turkish mills had earlier sought lower prices, but suppliers held firm, citing higher winter collection costs and rising freight rates.

Domestic finished steel demand showed slight improvement, with major producer Kardemir selling notable volumes of billet and rebar locally. However, export sales remain sluggish, pressured by weak global demand, competitive offers from other origins, and uncertainty surrounding the EU’s CBAM regulations set to take effect next year.

Export offers for Turkish rebar were largely stable at USD 550-555 per ton FOB, while wire rod was quoted at USD 560-565 per ton FOB.
