Scrap import prices steady amid subdued trading activity

Turkey’s imported scrap prices held largely stable this week at USD 345-355 per ton CFR, as buying activity remained muted due to the mid-week Republic Day holiday and cautious market sentiment.

Scrap suppliers kept offers firm, citing higher collection and freight costs, while Turkish mills remained hesitant amid weak finished steel demand.

Analysts noted that easing U.S.-China trade tensions and improving geopolitical conditions could lift sentiment in the coming weeks. An uptick in Chinese steel prices and the need for mills to restock scrap could also spur renewed buying interest.

Export offers for Turkish rebar were mostly unchanged at USD 550-555 per ton FOB, while wire rod was quoted at USD 560-565 per ton FOB, down by USD 5 on week-on-week basis.
