Scrap market stagnant on cautious sentiment

Turkey’s scrap import prices held steady this week at USD 380 per ton CFR, as upcoming Eid holidays and ongoing political uncertainty kept Turkish steel mills on the sidelines.

The political unrest from last week continues to affect market sentiment, while the Turkish lira remains volatile, further weighing on the steel sector. Despite subdued demand, suppliers maintained their scrap offers due to high collection costs. However, some market participants anticipate a potential upward trend in U.S.-origin scrap prices easing next month. Domestic and export finished steel sales remain sluggish.

However, Turkish long steel export offers rose by USD 5-10 per ton this week due to higher costs. Rebar export prices stand at USD 575-580 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers are at USD 585-590 per ton FOB.
