Global metals engineering group, SMS group has inaugurated a new production facility in Sanand, marking a key step in its international expansion and reinforcing its long-term commitment to India.
The 80,000-square-metre plant will manufacture machines and equipment for flat and long product processing as well as forging technology, with the capability to produce components weighing up to 125 tons and assemble complete production lines. It is SMS’s second manufacturing site in India, complementing its Bhubaneswar facility opened in 2014, which focuses on metallurgical machinery and services.
SMS said the Sanand site strengthens customer proximity in a key growth market and supports the government’s Make in India initiative. The location was selected for its strong industrial base, reliable infrastructure, skilled workforce and access to domestic and international customers.
The new complex is designed for future expansion, with further investments in advanced machinery and workforce growth planned. SMS has operated in India for decades and currently employs around 1,700 people, with offices in Gurgaon, Kolkata, Pune, Bhubaneswar and Sanand, covering the full range of its metallurgical and forging technologies.
