Algeria’s state-owned national mining company, Sonarem Group and Tosyali Algeria have taken a further step toward strengthening their strategic partnership for the development of the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, following a meeting in Algiers between Sonarem CEO Reda Belhadj and Tosyali Algeria Vice President Alp Topcuoglu, according to a company statement.
The discussions focused on advancing cooperation through Sonarem’s subsidiary FERAAL (National Iron and Steel Company) and Tosyali Algeria, with the aim of developing Gara Djebilet into a regionally and internationally significant mining and industrial hub.
The meeting was held as part of the implementation of a joint venture dedicated to iron ore processing at the Gara Djebilet site. The partners also held the inaugural general assembly of the joint venture, which plans to produce iron concentrate with an initial capacity of 4 mln tons per year, using advanced phosphorus removal technologies.
Sonarem said the project forms a key element of Algeria’s broader strategy to develop its mineral resources, strengthen industrial integration, support technology transfer, and generate added value through sustainable and efficiency-driven partnerships.
