Tata Steel installs new reducing and sizing block at long steel mill in Jamshedpur

Tata Steel has successfully integrated Kocks’ RSB 370++/4(5) Reducing & Sizing Block at its new special bar quality (SBQ) and wire rod mill in Jamshedpur, India.

Installed as the finishing unit after a reversing mill and 12 horizontal/vertical stands, the Kocks block forms the core of the 500,000 tons per year combined mill. Using Kocks’ proven three-roll technology, the mill now produces straight bars in sizes ranging from 20 mm to 90 mm, as well as feedstock for wire rod products with final diameters of 5 mm to 27 mm.

The new RSB enables high precision rolling for demanding applications, delivering tight dimensional tolerances and high surface quality. The project also included roll shop equipment and BAMICON Octopus software and hardware to support efficient setup and operation.

Tata Steel is among the world’s leading steel producers, with annual crude steel capacity of around 35 mln tons.
