Thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe, a leading steel and aluminum service center, is expanding its capacities with a low double-digit mln euro investment. At its Stuttgart site, the company plans to install two new lines and build a 2,000-square-meter warehouse to boost production, packaging, and storage capabilities. Construction and preparations for the new slitting and packaging systems began in August.
The advanced slitting line, expected to be operational by September 2025, will increase the site’s capacity to 350,000 tons per year, handling materials from 0.2 to 5.0 mm thickness, including electrical steel strip vital for electric motors and transformers. A high-performance packaging line from Promec will be installed in spring 2025.
Digital enhancements are a key part of the investment. New technologies, such as automated digital setup, production monitoring, and a knife-assembly robot, aim to optimize production. The site will also implement the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) called Toii, developed by Thyssenkrupp Materials IoT, to streamline operations and increase productivity.
Committed to sustainability, Thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe aims to be climate-neutral by 2030. The new slitting line will use 20pct less energy, incorporate energy recovery systems, and feature a photovoltaic system. Additionally, packaging will shift from steel to recyclable PET strapping to reduce CO2 emissions.
Thyssenkrupp Materials Services operates around 380 locations in over 30 countries, making it one of the world’s leading materials distribution and service providers.
