U.S. Steel to commission new premium thread line at Alabama tubular plant

U.S. Steel has announced a USD 75 mln investment to install a new premium thread line at its Fairfield Tubular Operations in Alabama, as part of its broader capital strategy with Nippon Steel.

The new facility will expand threading capacity, boost production efficiency through advanced automation, and include enhanced safety and process upgrades, the company said. Construction is set to begin once final approvals are received.

Fairfield Tubular Operations produces high-quality steel pipes and tubes for the energy sector, supported by an electric arc furnace and rounds caster. The project underscores U.S. Steel’s commitment to American-made manufacturing and premium tubular solutions.

Founded in 1901, U.S. Steel operates across the U.S. and Central Europe. Nippon Steel, Japan’s largest steelmaker, completed its USD 14.9 bln acquisition of the company in June 2025.
