Vale’s iron ore pellet output at Sohar plant declines in 2025

Vale reported a 5.1pct YoY decline in iron ore pellet production at its Oman operations in 2025, with output falling to 8.72 mln tons, according to company data.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, pellet production in Oman dropped 7.2pct YoY to 2.486 mln tons and was also down 1.5pct compared with the previous quarter.

Globally, Vale’s pellet production decreased 15pct YoY in 2025 to 31.35 mln tons, while pellet sales fell 14.4pct to 32.8 mln tons, reflecting challenging market conditions.

Located at Sohar Port, Vale Oman’s pelletizing plant, inaugurated in 2011 with a USD 2 bln investment, has an annual capacity of 9 mln tons of direct reduction pellets. The facility also includes a stockyard and distribution center capable of handling 40 mln tons per year.
