Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates a noteworthy surge in Turkey’s cold-rolled (CR) steel imports during May. The country imported a total of 91,303 tons of CR steel (coils/sheets) during the month, representing substantial growth compared to April.
Among the exporting countries, South Korea emerged as the leading supplier of CR steel to Turkey in May 2023, contributing 40,018 tons. Russian-origin CR steel imports followed, amounting to 17,318 tons, with China providing 14,383 tons.
Cumulatively, during the first five months of 2023 (Jan-May), Turkey’s CR steel imports reached 160,624 tons. Once again, South Korea retained its position as the top exporter of CR steel to Turkey, with a significant share of 160,624 tons. Other notable sources of CR steel imports included Russia with 95,859 tons, China with 31,242 tons, Spain with 16,669 tons, and Belgium with 16,094 tons.
