Wire rod exports drop sharply in May 2023

In May 2023, Turkey’s wire rod exports faced a significant decline of over 62pct YoY, with the total volume amounted to 39,533 tons, as reported by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

Despite this overall decrease, Turkish wire rod exports did exhibit a positive trend compared to April, showing a 47pct increase.

Among the major destinations for Turkish wire rod exports, Israel emerged as the top receiver with 14,756 tons, although this figure marked a 41pct YoY decrease. Canada followed with 4,563 tons, and Romania with 4,552 tons as major destinations for Turkish wire rod.

Other significant destinations for Turkish wire rod included Egypt (3,798 tons), Spain (3,618 tons), and Kosovo (3,252 tons).

In Jan-May 2023, Turkish wire rod exports totaled 195,466 tons, indicating a considerable 60pct YoY decrease.

Israel continued to hold the position of the leading destination for Turkish wire rod exports during this period, receiving a total of 98,847 tons. Other top destinations included Australia (18,109 tons), Romania (16,234 tons), Spain (6,568 tons), Egypt (6,398 tons), Paraguay (5,586 tons), Haiti (5,060 tons), and Canada (5,050 tons).
