Marcegaglia to revamp Palini & Bertoli plate mill

Danieli has been chosen by Marcegaglia Steel to undertake a new upgrading project at the Palini & Bertoli plate mill plant in San Giorgio di Nogaro, Italy.

The primary objective of this modernization project is to enhance the rolling process and expand the product range of Marcegaglia Palini & Bertoli.

The comprehensive plate mill project encompasses several key elements. It involves the implementation of a state-of-the-art Danieli Automation system and control pulpit specifically designed for the plate mill. Additionally, a new dividing shear will be incorporated into the system, accompanied by thorough engineering studies.

To ensure optimal performance and quality, the 6500-kN hydraulic dividing shear will be manufactured at Danieli’s headquarters in Italy. This shear will be operated using the advanced Danieli Hydraulic high-pressure hydraulic unit, which is expertly produced by the specialized division located in Danieli Thailand.

The upgraded Danieli Automation system will include the original HiPAC control system, which will cater to the two existing mill stands and the new shear. A centralized 3Q control pulpit will also be introduced, enabling comprehensive control of the entire plant from a single location.

In the Summer of 2025, the installation of the new shear will take place, accompanied by the integration of pinch rolls, hold-down devices, knife angle adjustment, knife changing devices, and automation to optimize the overall production process.
