Kirchhoff Automotive has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Acciaieria Arvedi S.p.A. in Cremona, Italy, to integrate Arvedi’s low-carbon Arvzero steel grades into its product portfolio, the company said.
The agreement supports Kirchhoff’s efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions across its value chain by increasing the use of CO2-reduced and carbon-neutral steel products.
During the visit, CEO J. Wolfgang Kirchhoff and Global EVP Procurement Michael Rank reviewed Arvedi’s electric arc furnace (EAF)-based production process, which enables the transformation from liquid steel to rolled coil within a compact production line of less than 200 meters. The setup highlights the efficiency of Arvedi’s integrated steelmaking operations.
Arvedi’s Arvzero products are certified as CO2-neutral flat steel and are produced using a high share of recycled input materials.
The MoU outlines a roadmap for the adoption of CO2-reduced and zero-carbon steel, underlining the role of long-term partnerships in advancing decarbonization and sustainability initiatives across the steel value chain.
The Arvedi Group is Italy’s major steel producer, with a total annual production and processing capacity exceeding 5 mln tons of steel products. Its core product range includes hot-rolled carbon and stainless steel coils, black, pickled, and galvanized coils, carbon and stainless steel welded tubes, precision re-rolled stainless steel strip, and large-scale forged products. This output is supported by specialized subsidiaries such as Acciaieria Arvedi (over 3 mln tons per year of coils), Arvedi Tubi Acciaio (650,000 tons per year of tubes), and Arinox (over 65,000 tons per year of precision strip).
