Govt holds talks with Baowu on steel investment, cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, held discussions with a delegation from China Baowu Steel Group on expanding cooperation and potential investments in the iron and steel sector.

The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), focused on strengthening industrial partnerships and exploring opportunities in steel production and related value chains.

Hashem highlighted the strategic importance of the steel sector for Egypt’s industrial development, particularly in key downstream industries such as automotive and home appliances. He noted that the government is prioritizing steel-intensive industries to support export growth and enhance manufacturing capabilities.

The minister also pointed to opportunities in infrastructure and industrial development, alongside ongoing efforts to improve the investment environment and attract foreign participation in steel and green industry projects.

Baowu Chairperson Hu Wangming expressed interest in expanding cooperation, citing Egypt’s strategic location and market potential. The company aims to leverage its expertise in steel production and technology to explore joint projects supporting regional industrial growth.
