Colakoglu Metalurji reported a fatal workplace accident at its facility in Turkey, where a collapse of the electric arc furnace loading platform resulted in three workers losing their lives and one worker sustaining serious injuries.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred when a platform structure at the plant gave way, causing workers to fall. Emergency teams were dispatched to the site, and the injured worker was taken to hospital for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, while operations at the affected section were suspended following the incident.
Colakoglu is a leading Turkish steel producer headquartered in Istanbul, with production facilities in Dilovasi, Kocaeli. The company produces slabs, billets, hot-rolled flat steel, and rebar. In 2023, it also began producing special grades of stainless steel. Its annual production capacity includes 3 mln tons of crude steel, 4.5 mln tons of HRC and 1 mln tons of rebar.
