EZDK boosts mill efficiency with Danieli shear blades

Egyptian long steel producer EZDK has completed a performance evaluation of Danieli shear blades installed at Shear #7 of its wire rod mill, reporting improved productivity and longer service life compared with competing products.

During trials conducted between July and August 2024, two sets of Danieli blades made from DANCUT510 tool steel were tested under full production conditions. Each set processed around 45,000 tons before first regrinding, with limited wear of 3-4 mm, allowing multiple regrinding cycles and extending total productivity to 135,000-225,000 tons per set.

This compares with an average lifetime of around 88,000 tons for competitor blades, indicating a performance improvement of 50-150pct, along with longer maintenance intervals and higher mill availability.

EZDK also highlighted cost benefits, citing a competitive purchase price and lower cost per ton due to extended blade life and reduced maintenance needs. Based on the results, the company’s technical team recommended sourcing future shear blades from Danieli.

EZDK (Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Company) is a key subsidiary of Ezz Steel. Ezz Steel operates four fully integrated steelmaking plants in Egypt with a combined production capacity of 7 mln tons of flat and long steel products annually.
