ArcelorMittal, Stockland partner on low-carbon steel use in construction

ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest integrated steel and mining companies, through its Steligence unit and ArcelorMittal International, together with partner JSteel, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Stockland, a major diversified property group, to promote the use of low-carbon steel solutions in construction projects.

The partnership will focus on integrating engineered steel solutions and ArcelorMittal’s XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel to reduce Scope 3 embodied carbon across Stockland’s developments.

As part of the collaboration, XCarb steel is being used in Stockland’s two-storey logistics facility in Sydney, spanning over 15,000 m2. Construction began in late 2024, with the project targeting a 36pct reduction in embodied carbon and a 5-Star Green Star Buildings rating.

The development will incorporate XCarb steel beams alongside other sustainability features, including solar energy, water harvesting, smart lighting and landscape design.
