India-based Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL) has commissioned a new walking beam reheating furnace at its Ludhiana facility, enhancing its capability to produce high-quality special steel for the automotive sector.
The furnace, supplied by Fives, has a capacity of 45 tons per hour, with the first hot billet successfully discharged in March 2026.
The installation is expected to improve billet heating quality, reduce scale loss and lower emissions compared with the company’s existing reheating operations.
The furnace is equipped with advanced combustion technology, enabling optimized fuel use and reduced emissions, including lower NOx levels.
The project supports VSSL’s strategy to expand domestic production of specialized steel grades, reduce reliance on imports and strengthen its position in both domestic and export markets.
Part of the Vardhman Group, VSSL is headquartered in Ludhiana and produces over 150 grades of alloy and special steels, including hot-rolled bars, bright bars, case-hardening steels, and bearing steels.
