LISCO completes commissioning of cold rolling mill

Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) announced the successful commissioning and performance testing of its cold rolling mill, implemented by Turkish engineering company Partner Teknik.

According to LISCO, the project forms part of the company’s efforts to strengthen production capabilities and expand value-added steel production in Libya.

The company stated that the commissioning tests achieved the target minimum thickness of 0.25 mm, reflecting the operational readiness of the facility and the technical performance of the installed equipment.

Previously, Partner Teknik stated that the 6-Hi reversing cold rolling mill had originally been supplied nearly two decades ago but was not commissioned due to operational and technical challenges in Libya.

Partner Teknik added that the commissioning of the line will allow LISCO to produce higher value-added steel products. The project was supported by consultant M. N. Dastur & Co. and remote technical assistance from MINO Group.

LISCO’s production capacity includes 1.1 mln tons of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), 650,000 tons of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI), and up to 1.7 mln tons of crude steel annually. Its product range includes slab, billet, rebar, wire rod, hot-rolled coil, cold-rolled coil, and steel sections.
