Turkish steelmaker Kardemir opened a new billet sales round on May 13 and closed it after securing significant order volumes from the domestic market.
The company offered S235JR-grade billet at USD 530 per ton EXW, down USD 5 per ton compared to the previous round, while B420-grade billet was offered at USD 540 per ton EXW, reflecting a USD 10 per ton decrease.
Market sources said the lower prices attracted strong buying interest amid the recent upward trend in imported scrap and billet prices. According to some market sources, Kardemir sold more than 90,000 tons during the sales round.
Founded in 1937, Kardemir is a major steel player in Turkey with a production capacity of 3.5 mln tons per year. The company produces blooms, billets, rebars, wire rods, profiles along with other steel products. The company’s production facilities are located in Karabuk.
