Fujian Kunbao New Materials, part of China’s Sanbao Group, has awarded Fives a contract to design and supply two strip processing lines for grain-oriented (GO) electrical steel production at its Zhangzhou facility.
The project includes two decarburizing and coating lines (DCL), each with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. The lines will be used to produce high-grade grain-oriented electrical steel, a key material used in transformers and power transmission equipment.
According to Fives, the lines will incorporate advanced combustion and heat recovery technologies capable of achieving furnace efficiency of up to 70pct while maintaining ultra-low NOx emissions, supporting both energy efficiency and environmental compliance.
Sanbao Group said the investment forms part of its strategy to expand into the high-end electrical steel market. Upon completion, the project is expected to strengthen the company’s position among China’s leading producers of grain-oriented electrical steel.
Fives noted that its technology is designed to provide precise strip temperature control, stable line operation and optimized atmosphere management, helping improve product quality and accelerate production ramp-up.
Sanbao Group is one of China’s major steel producers, with operations spanning long and flat steel products, special steels and downstream processing.
