Italian steel producer AFV Beltrame has launched a major modernization project at its rolling mill facilities, appointing AIC Group to upgrade safety, automation and control systems.
The project includes the modernization of drives, electrical panels and control systems to achieve Performance Level d (PLd) safety standards, aimed at improving operator protection and operational reliability.
As part of the upgrade, Beltrame will install a centralized safety PLC system supported by distributed remote I/O stations and a new industrial network infrastructure. The project also includes new safety boxes with key-based access control, gate-locking devices and industrial radio controls for maintenance operations.
AIC will deliver the project on a turnkey basis, covering engineering, risk assessment, system validation, installation, commissioning and software upgrades for HMI supervision. Hydraulic systems will also be upgraded to align safety performance with the new electrical systems.
The companies said the modernization will enhance safety management, improve monitoring and diagnostics capabilities, and support more efficient rolling mill operations.
AFV Beltrame is one of Europe’s leading producers of merchant bars and special steel profiles. The group operates seven production facilities, 12 rolling mills and four electric arc furnaces across Italy, France, Switzerland and Romania, supplying customers in around 40 countries.
