Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has signed a master supply and resale agreement with U.S.-based Amsted Rail, establishing a strategic partnership for the global marketing and distribution of railway products.
The agreement, which became effective on June 18, follows negotiations conducted under a previously signed memorandum of understanding between the two companies.
Under the terms of the agreement, Amsted Rail has been appointed as Kardemir’s exclusive distributor and reseller for the covered railway products across North, Central and South America. The two companies will also cooperate on selected railway projects and business opportunities in other international markets.
Kardemir said the partnership is expected to strengthen its global market access, expand its international sales and distribution network, support technical certification and market-entry processes, and increase exports of high value-added railway products.
The company is Turkey’s only producer of both railway rails and railway wheels and supplies products to the transportation, construction, mining and manufacturing sectors.
Amsted Rail is a leading global supplier of railcar components and railway technologies, with manufacturing operations across six continents. The company serves freight and passenger rail markets worldwide and has been active in the railway industry since 1877.
Founded in 1937, Kardemir is Turkey’s first integrated steel producer and one of the country’s leading manufacturers of long steel products. In addition to rails and railway wheels, the company produces billets, blooms, rebar, wire rod and structural steel products.
