Sandvik secures equipment order from LKAB

Sandvik has secured an order worth approximately SEK 175 mln (USD 18 mln) from Swedish mining company LKAB to supply crushing and screening equipment for its new ore sorting plant in Malmberget, Sweden.

The order includes cone crushers, double-deck screens and vibrating feeders, all equipped with Sandvik’s Automation and Connectivity System (ACS), which will be integrated into LKAB’s plant control system to improve operational efficiency, process control and predictive maintenance.

Sandvik said the solution combines advanced automation with engineered-to-order (ETO) equipment designed to meet LKAB’s production requirements. Equipment deliveries are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2027.

The new sorting plant is expected to begin operations in 2028 and will process 24 mln tons of magnetite ore and 1 mln tons of hematite ore annually. The facility will crush, screen and magnetically separate the ore before it is sent for beneficiation to produce iron ore fines and pellets.

Sandvik is a Sweden-based engineering group and a leading supplier of crushing, screening, feeding and automation solutions for the mining and infrastructure industries.

LKAB is Sweden’s largest iron ore producer and accounts for more than 80pct of the European Union’s iron ore output.
