Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Steel Complex has successfully commissioned Danieli’s Seven-Life Hydraulic Side Guides on its QSP (Quality Strip Production) hot strip line in Vietnam, improving strip stability and coil quality.
The installation is part of Hoa Phat’s ongoing continuous improvement program for the QSP line, where stable strip guidance at the downcoiler entry is critical to maintaining consistent coil geometry under demanding rolling conditions.
The fully hydraulic, force-controlled side guide system features rotating wear discs that ensure uniform wear distribution, extending equipment life and reducing maintenance requirements compared with conventional fixed wear-plate side guides.
According to Danieli, the system enhances strip centering at the coiler entry, reducing the risk of telescopic coils, protecting strip edges and extending maintenance intervals. It also ensures stable strip guidance throughout the entire coiling cycle, including tail-out and deceleration phases.
Hoa Phat reported that the new side guides have improved coil shape and lowered maintenance costs by eliminating the frequent weld rebuilds and replacements required with the previous fixed side guide system. The rotating wear discs offer a service life of around 12 weeks, significantly improving equipment reliability under high-quality steel production conditions.
Danieli said the installation confirms the suitability of its Seven-Life Side Guides for high-productivity compact rolling mills such as QSP, where process stability and equipment reliability are essential for efficient operations.
The Danieli-supplied QSP line at Hoa Phat Dung Quat has now produced more than 16 mln tons of hot rolled coil, serving both domestic and export markets.
Hoa Phat Group is one of Vietnam’s leading industrial manufacturers, with steel as its core business. By the end of 2026, its crude steel production capacity is expected to reach 16 mln tons per year, ranking first in Southeast Asia and placing it among the top steelmakers globally.
