India’s largest iron ore producer, NMDC, reported a 44.3pct YoY increase in iron ore production to 5.15 mln tons in June 2026, according to provisional company data.
Iron ore sales increased 11.2pct YoY to 3.98 mln tons, compared with 3.58 mln tons in June 2025.
In Chhattisgarh, production rose to 3.58 mln tons from 2.28 mln tons a year earlier, while sales increased to 2.79 mln tons from 2.34 mln tons.
In Karnataka, production climbed to 1.57 mln tons from 1.29 mln tons in June 2025. However, sales declined slightly to 1.19 mln tons from 1.24 mln tons.
During the first quarter of FY2026-27 (April-June), NMDC’s iron ore production increased 25.9pct YoY to 15.10 mln tons, compared with 11.99 mln tons in the corresponding period last year. Iron ore sales also rose 2.1pct to 11.75 mln tons from 11.51 mln tons.
NMDC is a major iron ore producer in India, operating the Bailadila mines, known for high-grade ore with up to 65.5pct Fe content. The miner aims to expand its iron ore capacity to 100 mln tons per annum by FY31.
