Baosteel has successfully commissioned its new two-strand No. 6 slab caster at its Baoshan steelworks in Shanghai, supplied by Primetals Technologies, expanding its capability to produce both conventional and high-end steel slabs.
Primetals Technologies supplied the mechanical equipment, Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, as well as construction and commissioning services. The new caster incorporates advanced technologies including the Dynacs 3D dynamic secondary cooling system, DynaGap 3D dynamic soft reduction system, Smart Mold with DynaWidth width adjustment, and the Quality Expert process monitoring system to improve slab quality, casting efficiency and operational stability.
The equipment also features Eco-Star spiral rollers, designed to extend roll service life while reducing energy consumption during downstream hot rolling operations.
Baosteel said the project was completed on schedule, reflecting the long-standing cooperation between the two companies. Primetals Technologies has supplied more than 20 continuous casters to Baosteel over the years, including recent projects at Baosteel Zhanjiang, Baosteel Meishan and Maanshan Iron & Steel.
Baosteel, a subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group, operates integrated steelworks in Shanghai, Wuhan, Meishan and Zhanjiang.
