Turkish integrated steel producer Kardemir has signed its first purchase agreement with Algeria’s National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) under a railway wheel supply program with a total contract value of approximately USD 27 mln.
The contract follows Kardemir’s successful bid in SNTF’s international tender for the supply of railway wheels. According to the company, the five-year supply program is valued at USD 26.99 mln, with deliveries to be made in batches based on the Algerian railway operator’s requirements.
Kardemir said the agreement marks another milestone in expanding its exports of value-added steel products and strengthens its presence in international railway infrastructure markets.
Kardemir operates Turkey’s only railway wheel production facility, with an annual capacity of 200,000 wheels. The plant manufactures wheels for locomotives, passenger and freight wagons, as well as urban rail systems, serving both domestic and export markets.
Founded in 1937, Kardemir is also Turkey’s only producer of both railway rails and railway wheels. The company manufactures a wide range of long steel products, including billets, blooms, rebar, wire rod, rails and structural sections.
