JFE Steel’s environmentally friendly steel breaks into U.S. transformer market

JFE Steel’s JGreeX green steel, known for its reduced environmental impact, has been chosen by a leading U.S. manufacturer of IT data center transformers, marking its debut in the United States. The order will be fulfilled through Toyota Tsusho Corporation to Eaton Corporation, a major U.S. transformer manufacturer.

Employing mass-balance calculations, JFE Steel assigns emission reductions to specific JGreeX green-steel products. Adhering to Japan Iron and Steel Federation guidelines, the environmental value of CO2 emission reductions throughout the manufacturing process is allocated to quantify low CO2 emission intensity for specific steel products.

Grain-oriented electrical steel, such as JGreeX, offers superior magnetic properties crucial for transformers. With growing demand for high-efficiency transformers in data centers due to escalating data processing needs, the magnetic properties of JGreeX will enhance transformer efficiency, aligning with energy consumption reduction goals.
