MMK-METIZ launches new galvanized wire for gabion structures

Russia’s MMK-METIZ, part of MMK Group, has started production of a new type of galvanized wire for gabion structures, expanding its range of special-purpose wire products.

The company produced a pilot batch of low-carbon, heat-treated galvanized wire in 2.7 mm and 3.4 mm diameters, with a narrower diameter tolerance range to meet specific customer requirements.

MMK-METIZ said it optimized the production process to ensure precise wire dimensions and consistent application of the galvanized coating. The finished product complies with the required technical specifications and customer standards.

Gabion structures, consisting of steel mesh filled with stone or other natural materials, are widely used for slope and shoreline reinforcement, retaining walls and landscaping. The galvanized coating provides corrosion protection and supports longer service life.

MMK-METIZ said the development reflects its efforts to expand its product portfolio and adapt production capabilities to specific customer requirements.

MMK-METIZ (Magnitogorsk Hardware and Calibration Plant) is one of Russia’s top three hardware manufacturers, operating as a core subsidiary of the MMK Group, manufacturing steel wires, fasteners, and other metal products.

MMK is a major Russian steel producer operating a fully integrated production chain, from iron ore preparation and coke production to the manufacture of downstream steel products. The company has an annual crude steel production capacity of around 14.5 mln tons per annum.
