Govt imposes provisional AD tariffs on galvanized steel imports from China and South Korea

Japan has decided to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on imports of hot-dipped galvanized steel coil, sheet and strip from China and South Korea following a preliminary investigation that found evidence of dumping and material injury to the domestic industry.

The provisional duties will range from 29.2pct to 55.3pct and will apply from August 8 to December 7, 2026, according to Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Finance.

The investigation was launched in August 2025 following an application from the domestic industry. Japanese authorities preliminarily determined that the products were being imported at dumped prices and that the imports had caused material injury to local producers.

The provisional duties will remain in place while authorities proceed with the investigation and consider whether definitive anti-dumping measures are warranted.
