Sanming Steel commissions new billet-grinding machine

Fujian Sanming Steel & Guangming Co. has completed final acceptance of a new high-efficiency billet-grinding machine supplied by Danieli and installed at its Sanming works in Fujian province.

The new Danieli Centro Maskin machine is designed to improve surface quality and production efficiency in the conditioning of special steel billets and blooms prior to rolling.

The grinding line can process square billets and rectangular blooms across a wide range of dimensions, with full-skin and corner-grinding capabilities. The system features the HiGrind technology for automatic control of grinding depth, helping ensure consistent defect removal while optimizing material yield.

The equipment operates at a grinding-wheel speed of up to 80 m/s, with trolley speeds of up to 1.2 m/s under load and positioning accuracy of +/- 1 mm. The system can automatically control full-skin grinding depth between 0.5 and 3 mm.

The installation includes mechanical equipment, electrical and automation systems, with an open multi-level automation architecture designed to provide flexible production management.

Equipment installation was completed in December 2025, followed by successful hot commissioning in a single trial. Danieli said the machine subsequently met all agreed technical parameters.

Fujian Sanming Steel & Guangming Co., a subsidiary of state-owned Fujian Sangang Group, was established in 1958 and operates integrated steelmaking facilities in Fujian. The company produces rebar, wire rod, medium-thick plate, round steel and H-section steel, with consolidated crude steel production capacity of around 12-12.5 mln tons per year.
