South Korea’s Hyundai Steel has signed an MoU with construction project management company HanmiGlobal to expand the use of steel structures in advanced industrial facilities, including data centres and semiconductor plants.
Under the agreement, the companies will seek to incorporate construction steel products such as fire-resistant steel and high-strength H-beams from the design stage of new projects.
The companies aim to increase the use of steel structures in data centre construction, where concrete structures have traditionally been widely used. Demand for steel structures is increasing as developers seek to shorten construction periods and improve cost efficiency, according to Hyundai Steel.
Hyundai Steel said the partnership will strengthen its steel product competitiveness for advanced industrial facilities and support its ability to provide a broader range of steel products as a package.
The company established a task force in March to expand sales in next-generation power infrastructure and target growing demand for steel in large-scale data centre projects.
Hyundai Steel, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, is one of South Korea’s largest steel producers, manufacturing a wide range of flat and long steel products for the automotive, construction, shipbuilding and machinery sectors.
