Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has concluded its latest sales round with higher billet and rebar prices, while firm scrap costs supported the increases.
The producer sold S235JR-grade billet at USD 535 per ton EXW, up USD 10 per ton from the previous round, while B420-grade billet was priced at USD 545 per ton EXW, an increase of USD 15 per ton.
Market sources said Kardemir booked more than 100,000 tons of billet in the round, as buyers faced limited alternative supply options. Rising scrap prices have also continued to support higher billet offers from Turkish producers.
Kardemir also concluded sales of 12-32 mm rebar at TRY 28,625 (USD 595) per ton EXW, excluding VAT, compared with TRY 27,295 (USD 578) per ton in the previous round.
Founded in 1937, Kardemir has an annual production capacity of around 3.5 mln tons, producing billets, blooms, rebar, wire rod and profiles from its facilities in Karabuk.
