Tubos y Flejes SLU (Tuflesa), part of the Bornay Group, has commissioned SMS group to modernize the sizing section of its ERW tube line at its Las Torres de Cotillas plant near Murcia, Spain.
The ERW-RD-240 line, supplied by SMS group in 1998, has been producing welded pipes for nearly 30 years. The upgrade aims to restore dimensional accuracy, improve product quality and ensure long-term production reliability. It follows the modernization of the line’s forming and welding section completed in 2024.
The line produces structural tubes with diameters of up to 240 mm for rounds and 200×200 mm for squares, including tolerance-critical products for the solar industry. SMS will replace the four existing sizing stands and related changeover equipment, while the main drive, base frames and automatic stand-exchange cars will be retained.
The new sizing stands will be delivered fully pre-assembled, wired and piped, with installation planned during Tuflesa’s summer 2027 shutdown. SMS will also supervise commissioning and support the restart.
Tuflesa has been producing welded steel tubes for various industries since 1965. The company supplies tubes for construction, agricultural greenhouses, heavy machinery and renewable energy applications, including solar infrastructure, and focuses on customized orders and short production runs, with products supplied across Europe, Central and South America, and parts of Africa.
