ArcelorMittal Brasil has approved a BRL 4-5 bln (USD 0.7-0.9 bln) investment to install a cold rolling mill and continuous coating line at its Tubarao unit in Serra, Espirito Santo.
The project will enable the company to produce higher-value-added flat steel products for the automotive, construction and white goods sectors. The continuous coating line will have annual capacity of 560,000 tons, processing hot-rolled coils produced at the Tubarao plant.
The investment is part of ArcelorMittal Brasil’s strategy to diversify its product portfolio and expand downstream operations in Brazil. The company has recently strengthened its downstream presence through acquisitions including Tuper, Tekno, Danica and Perfilor.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and take around three and a half years, with commissioning targeted for the first half of 2030. The construction phase is expected to create around 3,000 jobs at peak, while the completed operations will employ about 450 people.
