A Russian ballistic missile strike on September 5 damaged key production, energy and transport infrastructure at Metinvest’s Kamet Steel plant in Kamianske, forcing the Ukrainian steelmaker to fully suspend production.
The attack killed five people, including four Kamet Steel employees and one contractor worker, while another four employees were injured and remain under medical supervision.
The strike damaged the plant’s sinter and blast furnace operations, as well as energy and transport infrastructure. Emergency and recovery work is underway, while a full assessment of the damage will be carried out after debris is removed.
Kamet Steel said the timeframe for restarting production remains unknown. The company is currently assessing the extent of the damage and the repairs required to restore operations.
The latest incident follows a series of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s steel industry. In August, missile strikes also disrupted production at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and Metinvest’s Zaporizhstal.
Kamet Steel produces pig iron and long steel products and is part of Metinvest, one of Ukraine’s major industrial groups.
